HMS Intrepid On 28th May 1940 HMS Intrepid arrived at Dover to take part in Operation 'Dynamo' the withdrawal of the British Expendiary Forces from France and Belgium. On 29th May she landed 661 troops at Dover but on her return trip to Dunkirk she was damaged by air attack, with two killed and 19 wounded, HMS Intrepid had to return to Dover. The rest of 1940 was spent as part of the Humber Force, ready to resist any German attempt at the invasion of England. On the morning of 26th September 1943 HMS Intrepid received a direct hit during an air raid on Leros and sustained damage amidships. In a further raid in the afternoon she was again hit and had to be abandoned. She capsized early on 27th September with the loss of 15 of her ships company. |
