Lone Survivor
Ronald Murton

Dover and Ramsgate lifeboats were launched and a American search and rescue helicopter from Manston. They could not locate the wreck until daylight by the helicopter. In an amazing flying feat for which the crew received bravery awards the helicopter snatched Ronald Murton from the hull of the ship

  

 

On Saturday 27th November 1954 at 02:00 hours the South Goodwin Lightship became the first Trinity House lightship to be wrecked she broke from her two huge sea anchors in winds of 80 mph
