Randolph Road DoverOn Thursday 12th June 1941 at 03.30 hours a lone Heinkel 111 German bomber crossed the English Channel with a Luftmine (LM1000) beneath it’s fuselage. It’s target the Gas Works in Union Road . The bomber released the mine from about 1500 feet which floated down on a parachute onto the sleeping occupants of Randolph Road. The Luftmine completely demolished 40 houses, seriously damaged 150 and partially damaged hundreds in near by streets. Three of the gasometers at the nearby gas works were damaged releasing thousands of gallons of water into the nearby streets.

Fifteen people were killed and over twenty seriously injured survivors were taken  by the Civil Defense Service to the Convent at Eastbrook Place Dover.
